Supporting Irish Musicians brings national success to Northern Sound.

7 April 2011: Northern Sound has won the prestigious 2011 IMRO Independent Radio Award in recognition of its ongoing support of Irish music creators.

The IMRO Independent Radio Award is presented by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) to the radio station which features the largest number of Irish music creators in its programming output.

“Northern Sound is a name synonymous with quality and award winning broadcasting.  Music is one of the main reasons our listeners tune in every day. The strong musical heritage of Cavan and Monaghan is reflected in our play lists which feature Irish artists across all musical genres from trad, pop, country, folk, blues and also a programme featuring new and emerging Irish artist from the local area and beyond.  We are very proud to have won this award.  It reflects the commitment of everyone in Northern Sound to supporting Irish music and culture”, said Joao Soares, General Manager of Northern Sound.

The award was presented by Presidential hopeful, Senator David Norris to Paul Byrne, CEO and Joao Soarres, General Manager of Northern Sound at the IBI Annual Broadcasting Conference which took place in Dublin earlier this week.
